There are many positives to the winter months, and one of them is winter trips and journeys perhaps taken on your bike or two wheeler. However, along with the positive aspects of the winter season comes the problem of foggy conditions and low visibility. This can be extremely dangerous when riding a bike, especially on crowded Indian roads. At best, it is an annoyance and hinders your ability to navigate the roads safely and comfortably in the winter months. It can make it a big challenge to ride your bike in the winter months.

Tips To Be Safe When Riding Your Bike in Foggy Conditions

To mitigate the danger of low visibility in foggy weather, follow these tips and keep in mind these ways to keep yourself as safe as possible.

1. Keep Distance

The first and very effective consideration is keeping a distance from other vehicles on the road. This prevents any collision from occurring. You are at greater risk of collision in foggy weather as a rider or driver ahead of you may be forced to suddenly brake because of the low visibility conditions which can lead to a collision. Therefore it is best to keep your distance.

2. Keep Visibility

The problem of low visibility and the dangers of riding in the fog can be combatted by the use of safety gears with reflective surfaces which are designed to make you more easily visible to other drivers and riders on the road. This further reduces the likelihood of a collision and keeps you safe on the road in the fog.

3. Low Speed

It is best to ride at a controlled speed to give yourself maximum control of your bike. This will help you to be able to break at a sudden notice if need be, preventing collisions and possible injuries caused by them. Bikes with ABS features are recommended for this purpose.

4. Visor Cleanliness

Make sure your visor is properly cleaned to ensure proper visibility. To give yourself the highest visibility it is also advisable you treat it with anti-fog agents. Further, if you wear prescription spectacles make sure that they are not tinted, reflective, or photochromatic as this can hinder your visibility of the road.

5. Brake Lights

It is important to tap your brake lights regularly so motorists behind you can easily see you and be aware of your presence.

6. Fuel Tank

Make sure your fuel tank is full before any journey as you do not want to be caught without fuel and searching for a gas station in a scenario of low visibility.

7. Ride on the Left

Riding on the left lane enables you to keep a distance from other vehicles and have sufficient space to move in the event that somebody tries to overtake you.
