• In the Union Budget 2021, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the Atmanirbahr Swasth Bharat Yojana.
• In this scheme, there is a provision of Rs. 2.23 lakh for health care.
• Investigative centers will be created in all districts.
• The PMASBY plan calls for a provision set of Rs 64,180 crores to be expended over six years.
• Critical care hospital blocks are to be established in 12 main institutions and 602 districts, according to this proposal.
• This initiative will help about 11,000 urban and rural health and wellness centers, as well as 17,000 rural health centers.
• This proposal proposes for 15 health emergency operations centers and two mobile hospitals to be built.
• 3383 public health units have been created in 11 states.
• Investigative centers will be created in all districts.

What Is The Purpose of Pradhan Mantri Atma Nirbhar Swasth Bharat Yojana?

The main purpose of the Pradhan Mantri Atmanirbhar Swasth Bharat Yojana (PMASBY) is to fill existing gaps in public health infrastructure, particularly in primary and critical care institutions, in both rural and urban areas. It also aims to construct an IT-enabled illness monitoring system by establishing a network of surveillance laboratories at the block, district, regional, and national levels in metropolitan regions. In addition, the PMASBY initiative aims to upgrade 33 existing public health units while also building 17 new public health units at entry points. This will help the government to better effectively prevent, identify, investigate, and battle disease epidemics and public health problems. In addition, the Prime Minister's Ayushman Bharat Health Facilities Mission aims to make better use of existing district hospital facilities, rectify inequities in medical college distribution, and improve the availability of health professionals in India.

• In 10 high-focus states, the PMASBY initiative will assist about 17,788 existing rural health and wellness centers.
• In addition, this initiative would create 11,024 health and wellness centers in urban regions throughout all 50 states.
• It will provide critical care services in all Indian districts with populations above 5 lakh through dedicated critical care hospital blocks.
• Critical care services would be provided on a referral basis in districts with populations of less than 5 lakh people.
• Anyone insured by the public healthcare system in India will have access to a network of laboratories that will provide a wide variety of diagnostic services.
• An integrated health information system connecting all public health laboratories would be expanded to all Indian states and union territories as part of this initiative.
• 157 additional medical schools have been approved around the nation as part of the project's three stages. 63 medical schools have already started classes.
• As part of the PMASBY initiative, frontline health workers will be trained to establish a workforce capable of reacting to any public health emergency.
