Vishwakarma Puja 2024

The day for which artisans, carpenters, factory workers, craftsmen, and industrial workers eagerly wait is finally around the corner. We are talking about “Vishwakarma Puja.” Some people also pronounce Vishwakarma puja as “Vishwakarma Jayanti.”

This year, in 2024, Vishwakarma Puja will be celebrated on September 16th, Monday, honoring the birth anniversary of “Lord Vishwakarma”.

Who is Lord Vishwakarma?

Lord Vishwakarma was given the title of: 

“creator of the universe”  

&

“first craftsman, architect and engineer of this world”

In short, Lord Vishwakarma is believed to have created the universe and all its wonders. He is known for his incredible skills in crafting and engineering. Some of the most powerful and famous weapons in Hindu stories are made by him, including:  

• Lord Shiva’s Trishul 

• Lord Vishnu’s Sudarshana Chakra

• Indra’s Vajra

The individuals who work in the construction and manufacturing fields honour him and seek his blessings for their tools and machines.

How is Vishwakarma Puja Celebrated?

The preparations for Vishwakarma puja generally start a few days before the auspicious day. 

People start cleaning their homes, workshops, and factories. Further, these are decorated with flowers, lights, and colourful rangoli. 

Then, an altar (decorated with flowers, lamps, and incense sticks) is set up with an idol or picture of Lord Vishwakarma. Tools and machines used for work are placed in front of the altar. This is done to seek blessings from God for their safe and effective use.

In many places, cultural programs like music, dance, and skits are organised to celebrate the occasion.

Vishwakarma Puja Muhurat 

The shubh muhurat for Vishwakarma Puja is at 07:53 PM, on September 16. The day on which the puja is done is also known as Kanya Sankranti or Kanya Sankramanam. 

Significance of Vishwakarma Puja

In Sanatan Dharm, every festival is celebrated with the utmost devotion, and so is the Vishwakarma puja. This day holds special significance in recognising and appreciating the hard work of craftsmen, engineers, and workers. It highlights how important their contributions are to society. 

Prayers are offered to Lord Vishwakarma for the safety of workers who use tools and machines. It’s a way to seek divine protection to prevent accidents and ensure smooth work. People also worship their vehicles like cars, bikes, trucks during this festival.
