Types of Car Insurance Plans Offered by Digit

Digit offers 3 types of car insurance. Below is a brief description of all three of them:

  • Third-Party Car Insurance: Third-party car insurance covers injuries and damages caused to a third-party person or property due to your vehicle. This insurance is most popular as it is mandatory to have as per Indian law. IRDAI has standardised the prices of third-party car insurance based on the engine capacity to ensure it is affordable to all.
  • Stand Alone Own Damage Car Insurance (SAOD): Stand-alone own-damage car insurance is for your vehicle protection concerning damages incurred due to accidents, fire, and calamities caused by man or nature. Digit covers damages caused by animals and coconuts as well which is a unique offering. Digit has settled 1,500 claims for damages caused by coconuts. Moreover, Digit has paid over 30 crores to settle claims triggered by damages caused by animals like monkeys, dogs, and elephants. An own damage policy is not mandatory but is highly recommended due to the skyrocketing cost of car repairs.

Add Ons Offered By Digit Car Insurance

  • Zero Depreciation Cover: This is a popular cover that is also known as bumper-to-bumper car insurance. This cover discards the natural effect of depreciating the cost of a car and its parts while settling a claim. In simple words, without this cover, you might have to pay a portion of the total claim amount due to the depreciation of parts, but with this cover, the insurer will be obligated to bear the cost of depreciation and settle the complete amount.
  • Breakdown Assistance Cover: More popularly known as ‘Roadside Assistance’, this cover provides help in case your car stops while you are in the middle of the journey. A vehicle with the necessary equipment and resources arrives at your location and assists you in resuming your journey.
  • Engine and Gearbox Protection Cover: This cover protects your gearbox and engine from risks of damage. If any accident or natural calamity triggers damage in the gearbox or engine, then this cover will bear the expenses of repair and replacement required.
  • Consumables Cover: It's disappointing to pay for screws, nuts, bolts, engine oil, and other consumables while you get the car repaired without paying. This cover takes care of all the consumables that are used to repair your car in case of an accident.
  • Daily Conveyance Benefit: In case your car has sustained major damages and needs to spend a few days at the garage to get repaired, then this cover assists you in travelling for your day-to-day work. This cover provides you with either a daily allowance that takes care of travel expenses or gives you a standby vehicle.
  • Tyre Protection Cover: Generally car insurance policies do not cover damages happened to tyres unless damage was sustained in an accident. With this add-on, you get a cover for tyre bursts, cuts, or bulges due to all other reasons.
  • Key and Lock Protect: If the policyholder had to get the lock repaired, or replaced due to theft or accident, then this cover covers the financial cost. This cover is valid in case the key is damaged, stolen, or misplaced in an accident.
  • Loss to Personal Belongings: This add-on compensates for the loss of any valuable personal property like clothes, documents, laptop, charger, mobile phone, etc. that gets stolen from or along the vehicle.
  • Return to Invoice Cover: Return to invoice cover returns you the amount mentioned on the invoice of your car along with the registration amount and road tax. This is only applicable when your car is stolen or damaged beyond repair.
  • EV Shield Add-on Cover: This add-on is specially designed for EVs in India. This cover financially protects your EV against loss or damages to electrical panels including charging points, and vehicle chargers including charging cable, and offers roadside assistance services specific to EVs.
  • Pay as You Drive Cover: This cover is suitable for those who do not use their cars extensively. With this Add-on you can avail of discounts on your own damage policy based on the number of kilometres you would drive. If you cross the number of kilometres you took the policy for, you can always top up the plan with more kilometres.

How To Make A Claim For Digit Car Insurance?

Making a claim is very simple with Digit and it includes zero paperwork. Keep the following documents ready to upload while filing the claim:

  1. RC of your vehicle
  2. Copy of FIR ( if applicable)
  3. Original Car Repair Bills ( in case of reimbursement claim settlement)

To file the claim, follow the steps mentioned below:

Step 1: Inform Your Insurer

Give a call at 1800-258-5956 to inform the customer support team and they will send a self-inspection link to your mobile number. If the case involves an accident or theft, file an FIR at the nearest police station and keep a copy of the FIR.

Step 2: Complete Self Inspection and Submit Documents

Through the link received from customer support, complete the self-inspection of the vehicle using your smartphone. Make sure you take clear pictures and videos of the damage. Also, ensure you shoot in a well-lit area for clarity of images and videos. Once completed, upload the required documents on the Digit app.

Step 3: Get Repair Done

When your claim gets approved, choose between a cashless or reimbursement claim settlement. You can get your car repaired according to your choice of claim settlement process.

Note that in case of theft, the claim will be provided only after the police issue a non-traceable certificate. The Non Traceable certificate implies that the police could not track your vehicle.

Digit Car Insurance Renewal Process

Renewing your insurance is important, and renewing it on time is even more crucial. Car insurance policies usually have a duration of 1 year from the time of purchase and must be renewed before expiry. You should choose between renewing the current policy or picking a different policy according to your requirements.   • Excellent Grievance Redressal

    I was having some concerns over some details in the policy document.     My car had some mechanical issues and was taken by the insurer for repair. After repairing I had to pay nothing except the deductibles.   • Loss of Personal Belonging Cov...

    My laptop was stolen from my car and the window was broken while the car was in parking. I ran to the police and was weeping about my loss as I knew the chances of getting it back are very low.   • What is No Claim Bonus?

    No Claim Bonus (NCB) is basically a discount which is awarded to a policyholder by the insurer for making zero or no claims during the full policy term. NCB can also be accumulated over the years and the discount varies from 20% to 50% based on the damage premium.

  • Will Digit Car Insurance transfer my NCB when I shift from my previous car insurer?

    Yes, you can transfer No Claim Bonus (NCB) from your previous car insurer to Digit General Insurance.

  • Will I be able to select a garage of my choice for repairs?

    Digit car insurance policyholders are allowed to choose a garage as per their choice. In case you choose a workshop outside the Digit garage network, you will be provided with an advance to meet the repair expenses so that you need not raise a claim reimbursement.

  • At how many garages does Digit provide cashless claim settlement service?

    Digit General Insurance has more than 6,000 network garages at its disposal where you can enjoy the benefit of cashless claim settlement.

  • What all documents do I need at the time of policy purchase or renewal?

    You will not have to submit any documents as Digit has a zero paperwork policy during both the purchase as well as renewal of the policy. You just need to fill in the vehicle details such as the model, variant, registration number of the car etc. at the time of purchase and your previous policy details at the time of renewal. For these details you can refer to your car’s registration certificate (RC) and previous policy document.
