Going to Ride Bike in Heavy Traffic? Here Are Some Unavoidable Tips

Riding a bike, especially in heavy traffic, can be dangerous. There may be many riders on the road who will make mistakes, which may cost both of you huge. Therefore, you must be prepared for every action on the road, in order to make your ride a safe one. Listed below are some tips that you must follow to reach your destination safely: 

• Observe Traffic And Pedestrians

As a responsible driver, you must be aware of what is going on around you. Not only you must observe the traffic, but also should notice the actions of pedestrians if any. This will help you to plan your actions in advance. See if your lane is clear to move over, check if any child trying to cross the road suddenly comes in your way, a person wearing headphones coming your way, etc. Being observant gives you an indication of what other people sharing the road with you may do.

• Don’t Get Between Rider And Divider

In India, we normally drive on the left side of the road. In this case, overtaking should be cautiously done. You must try not to gush yourself between the rider and the street divider. The rider ahead may wish to exit the street even at the last moment which might be dangerous for you and that rider if you were not riding to the left of him. Also, riding to the left will not hinder the other rider in case he wants to take a u-turn in the opposite direction. 

• Take note Of Traffic Lights

If you have managed your way at the front at the traffic light, then you must not keep hanging in there when the light turns green. This is because doing this may get you run over by other vehicles. You must also look in both directions before moving forward. But also, it is recommended to not trust the lights entirely. Sometimes, they may not be working properly. 

Also, many bikers are in a hurry during rush hours and so they tend to take chances of skipping the red light to timely reach the destination. You must keep an eye on such riders and be careful of their actions. 

• Be Seen And Heard

The best way to be seen by other bikers on the road is to ride in a specific lane. This way they will be able to see you in the rear and side mirror and plan their actions accordingly. To ensure that other drivers hear you, you must have a horn in good working condition and use it whenever necessary. 

• Know Your Route

You must be aware of the route that you must take in order to avoid any hassle or confusion on the road. If you are travelling to the same destination daily, then changing your route regularly may bring new surprises. So, it is better to stick to one route so that you are prepared for any disturbance in your way.
