What to do if you lost your two-wheeler insurance documents? Here is the step by step guidance which you should follow if you have lost your original two-wheeler insurance policy.

Two-wheeler is considered as the most efficient and time saving mode of transport all over the world. In India, it plays a major role in daily commuting as it is a cheaper source of transport. By adding a layer of protection with the help of an insurance policy can make the bike travel all the more convenient. However, if the policyholder loses their two-wheeler insurance policy, it can put them in a big problem if any situation of claim arises.

Followings are the guidelines which are to be followed if a policyholder loses his/her original two-wheeler insurance policy.

Steps to Follow if You Lose Your Two-Wheeler Insurance Policy

You can follow the below-mentioned steps if you lose your original two-wheeler insurance policy document:

Step 1: File an FIR

If you lose your bike insurance policy, the first step is to file a first information report or FIR at the nearest police station by providing insurance number details, the policy type etc.

Step 2: Apply for a Duplicate Insurance Copy

After filing an FIR, you should submit an application to the insurance provider, requesting a duplicate copy of your bike insurance policy. This should be submitted along with a copy of the first information report or FIR. You need to mention details like your name, policy number, cover type and date of policy issue in the application.

Step 3: Sign an Indemnity Bond

The insurance company has to make a provision to sign an indemnity bond in a non-judicial stamp paper for duplicate policy requests if you lose your two-wheeler insurance policy. The bond will carry the necessary details like the policy number and your name. The bond will be signed by two people other than your blood relations as witnesses to add transparency to the system.

Step 4: Advertisements in National Newspapers

As the last step, you need to publish an advertisement in The National Newspaper regarding the loss of your insurance policy. The copy of such advertisements has to be sent to the insurance company. After assessing these copies, if found suitable, the insurance company will issue a duplicate policy to you. Usually insurance companies do a rigorous scrutiny regarding this and if found suitable then only they issue a duplicate copy of the policy.

Conclusion

Above mentioned are a few guidelines that are to be followed by the policyholder when the two-wheeler insurance policy is misplaced. It is also advised to be quick in contacting the insurance company about the loss of the documents and to be clear and precise about the details so that necessary action can be taken quickly, thereafter. It will be wise to begin as soon as the policyholder realizes that the original insurance papers are misplaced or lost.
