Due to the pandemic declared coronavirus or COVID-19, the countries are under lockdown, trade and commerce has been hit, and people are trying hard to save their lives. Amid the life-changing scenario, social distancing has emerged as a necessary precaution that can limit the spread of the virus. So, once you start following social distancing practice and staying indoors with family, you can finally find some time for other important things including your beloved motorcycle’s maintenance.
So, here are a few tips that you can follow to take care of your motorcycle during COVID-19. Read them and apply them accordingly:
1. Keep Your Bike Covered
It is recommended to cover up your motorcycle when not in use. Covering your bike ensures that it does not catch a lot of dust and keeps it safe from bird droppings. Covering the bike also shields it from getting noticed by the thieves.
2. Find the Right Parking Spot for it
Considering the fact that your bike is not going to be used for a long time, it is important to find the right parking spot for it. Prefer parking your bike where you can have eyes on it. For instance, you can see it from the balcony or window of your house. Avoid parking your bike in a secluded area.
3. Check Ignition From Time to Time
When you know that your bike is not going to be used for a long time, then you can turn its ignition on once in a while. For instance, when stepping out to buy groceries, you can simply start the engine and let your bike roar for a while.
4. Check Lubrication
Make sure that your bike is always lubricated. You can change the oil and lubricate the chain of your bike if you are experienced enough or take help from a friend or a mechanic.
5. Keep the Bike Locked
Although installing ARAI-approved anti-theft devices on your bikes are advised, if not so, you can also go with the traditional method of using chains. It is a preferred idea if you live in a locality that has a history of theft.
Apart from following the above-mentioned tips, it is also recommended to not to use your bike until and unless really essential, wherein only one person should ride the bike without a pillion rider. This will help you maintain social distancing.
Also, get a reliable insurance policy if you have a new bike or get it renewed timely in case of an existing one. It is important to have a bike insurance policy even when you are barely using your bike during the pandemic, because damage(s) to the bike, if caused due to several events can dig a big hole in your pocket and you would not want that. Thes events may include theft, vandalism, natural calamity, vandalism, etc.
