Fraud Insurance Claim in Hisar: Lawyer Among Three Booked
Three persons including a Lawyer along with some private and government hospitals have been booked by the Hisar police for allegedly misleading the insurers and others by converting natural deaths or deaths caused due to illness into accidental deaths to claim insurance money. The Police claimed that the accused had taken Rs. 21 Crore as claims in several cases. However, nobody has been arrested so far in the case.
As per the sources, the Hisar police station had registered a case on the complaint of Manoj Kumar who is a Manager with HDFC Ergo General Insurance Co Ltd against Pawan Kumar Bhoria (also known as Sonu), who is a resident of Sonipat, Sandip Kharab, and Sunil Kharab who is a Lawyer based in Hisar for cheating and forgery.
A police spokesperson told that names of one private hospital from Hisar and one from Jind were also mentioned in the FIR with a few government hospitals. Pawan, the Lawyer in the case was arrested by the STF (Special Task Force) in April for operating a similar racket.
As per the complaint filed with the police, Manoj claimed that HDFC Ergo provided general insurance and the accused used people with bad socio-economic conditions for selfish motive. He said, “The customers targeted by the accused were suffering from some terminal illnesses like cancer who were likely to die within 15 days to one year from the start of the policy date. However, deaths of such persons are not due to accidental injuries. The accused then took the insurance claim by passing off such deaths as accidental cases.”
