Russia’s Covid Vaccine Sputnik V Safe & Effective, Says Study

Russian scientists have claimed that the country's Covid-19 vaccine Sputnik V is safe and effective against the deadly virus. The claim is backed by results of an advanced study, which was published in a medical journal in the UK.

On the basis of trials conducted on 20,000 people in Russia last fall, the experts say that the coronavirus vaccine is about 91% effective. Moreover, the shot has also proved to prevent people from becoming severely ill with the disease.

It must be noted that the Sputnik V, the covid vaccine gained approval of the Russian government on August 11. Russia’s President Vladimir Putin infomed on the news on the national television that one of his daughters has already received the vaccination. At the time, the vaccine had only been tested in countless people.

Talking about vaccine side effects, flu-like symptoms, fatigue, and pain at the injection site were noticed as the most common ones. Serious side effects were rare. The study reported four deaths as well. More than 2,100 people over the age of 60 years were involved in the study, in which the vaccine was found to be 92% effective.

Sputnik V, the Russian novel coronavirus vaccine utilizes a modified version of the technology that is quite similar to the vaccine developed by AstraZeneca and Oxford University. Nonetheless, the latter is a two-dose vaccine, while Sputnik V uses slightly different adenovirus for the second booster shot.

The roll out of Sputnik V began in a large-scale vaccination campaign in Russia in December. Doctors and teachers were the first in line to get the shot.

Russia’s Sputnik V has received authorization in many countries including Argentina, Bolivia, Serbia, Iran, Palestine, and others.
