Under PMMVY, eligible women receive a direct cash benefit of ₹5,000 in three instalments during pregnancy and after childbirth. Also, a cash incentive of ₹1,000 as per approved norms towards Maternity Benefits under Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) is also provided. In total, a woman gets ₹6,000/- on average.

Who is Eligible for PMMVY?
This scheme mainly aims to support women who belong to socially, economically disadvantaged, and marginalized sections of society. The criteria are:

The pregnant woman should be at least 19 years old.

The woman who is employed and experiencing wage losses due to the pregnancy.

Pregnant women can apply for the PMMVY within 270 days of childbirth.

If the applicant delivers twins, triplets or quadruplets in her second pregnancy, and among them, one or more children is a girl, the woman will receive a cash benefit as per the PMMVY 2.0 norms. (as explained below)

Women of scheduled castes (SC) and scheduled tribes (ST).

Women who are fully disabled (Divyang Jan) or partially (40%).

Women holders of BPL ration Card, e-Shram card, and MGNREGA Job Card.

Women who are already beneficiaries under Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana (PMJAY) under Ayushman Bharat.

Women farmers who are beneficiaries under Kisan Samman Nidhi.

Women whose net family income is less than ₹ 8 Lakh per annum.

Pregnant and Lactating AWWs/ AWHs/ ASHAs.

Exclusions of PMMVY
The exclusions of the PMMVY scheme are:

The pregnant woman's husband’s Aadhaar number is not mandatory for availing the benefits under the Scheme.

All pregnant women and lactating mothers who are employees of the Central Government or State Government or Public Sector Undertaking and are getting similar benefits from their organizations are not eligible to get the benefits of the scheme.
