Diabetes Signs and Symptoms in Women

Diabetes is one of the widespread diseases in India. It is a metabolic disease in which an individual has high levels of blood sugar that rises from difficulty in the production of insulin. Diabetes can affect anyone of any gender or age. We have a hormone called insulin that transfers sugar from the blood to different cells of our body. But in the case of diabetes, this transference does not occur properly. As the production of insulin gets impaired, the sugar level in the blood increases and affects the basic functioning of our body.

How Diabetes Affects Women?

The effect of diabetes among women is difficult to diagnose as hormones and inflammation in women act differently. Among the problematic symptoms, diabetes has a significant impact on the heart. It increases the risk of cardiac disease in both men and women. But according to studies, women have four times higher risk factors than men. Diabetes can worsen the case in women to the extent of blindness, kidney disease, etc. The chance of getting Diabetes increases in women after pregnancy. As in most women, gestational diabetes occurs that disappears after their childbirth, but this increases the risk of diabetes. The signs of diabetes are so subtle that one can move freely with an undiagnosed Diabetes.

Symptoms of Diabetes in Women

Among the undiagnosed symptoms, some prominent signs occur in women with diabetes. Considering these early signs, one can be assured of their health condition.

1. Frequent Urination: Urinating removes toxins and excess sugar from the blood. When an individual has diabetes, their blood sugar level increases and results in frequent discharge for this excess sugar, so the person feels the need for urinating frequently.

2. Vaginal And Oral Infections: High levels of sugar in the blood triggers the occurrence of fungus. Due to this, women with diabetes develop vaginal infections. They may feel itching, excessive vaginal discharge, or soreness. Yeast infection also occurs in the mouth. This results in forming a white coat on the tongue and the inner side of the mouth. This is due to the oral infection accompanied by bad breath.

3. Blurry Vision: The blurring of vision is a common symptom among women. Due to high sugar levels, excess fluid forms in the lens. This results in the distortion of vision and causes nearsightedness. Appropriate blood sugar levels would prevent such a condition.

4. Tingling Effect in Limbs: Diabetes limits the blood flow to the limbs. This damages the blood vessels and nerves present in the hands and feet. This condition, called neuropathy, frequently occurs in women with diabetes.

5. Urinary tract infection (UTI): The risk of UTI or urinary tract infection is higher in women with diabetes. When bacteria enter the urinary tract, the infection develops, resulting in painful urination, burning sensation, or blood or cloudy urine discharge. If UTIs are not treated on time, they can give rise to kidney diseases.

6. Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS): Women with PCOS have a higher risk of having diabetes as it causes insulin resistance and increases blood sugar levels. The signs of PCOS may include irregular periods, weight gain, acne, etc.

7. Chronic Tiredness: The constant flow of glucose to the cells maintains our energy. Women who have diabetes feel tired, even if they get enough sleep. As in diabetes, the glucose from the blood cannot be transferred to the cells, which results in fatigue.
