Does Hot Weather Slow The Spread of Coronavirus?

Coronavirus or COVID-19 disease is slowly but steadily expanding its presence in India.

The past few days have been very concerning for every individual.

Although certain measures taken by the Indian Government is averagely slowing down the coronavirus spread, negligence of a few people towards Coronavirus Symptoms and Precautions or Social Distancing Guidelines has resulted in the rise of coronavirus cases in different cities across the country.

Amidst the concern and chaos, Indian weather is a ray of hope for us.

The rising temperature in the country, something which has always been a topic of dissatisfaction, is finally being seen as a blessing at the present time.

Ever since the outbreak of coronavirus in the world, researches have been conducted to find out the impact of the deadly virus on places with low as well as high temperatures.

According to findings,

  • 90% of the novel coronavirus transmissions until March 22, 2020, have occurred in areas with a temperature between 3 and 17 degrees Celsius.

  • Moreover, COVID-19 disease, which is one of the causes of common cold survives 30 times longer in regions with the temperature of 6 degree Celsius in comparison to areas with a temperature of 20 degree Celsius and high humidity.

The earlier strains of coronavirus too have led to various assumptions stating that the new coronavirus is not capable of surviving in places with warmer climates and higher temperatures.

As per a report by the National University of Singapore (NUS), there is a massive similarity between the seasonal pattern of novel coronavirus and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) or COVP9, which broke out in 2003.

According to the researches, in the USA and China, the flu season begins in December and peaks in January or February, after which it experiences a downfall. If researchers in the NUS are to be believed -

The novel coronavirus strain is similar to that of influenza infection & SARS and it will fall back by May when temperatures rise in India.

Additionally, two Indian microbiologists with working experience in National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the world's largest biomedical research agency located in Maryland, USA, have suggested that the rising mercury in the summers could end up in slowing down the rate of transmission of the novel coronavirus infection in India.

The beginning of April month has already welcomed days with high temperatures. As per the history of Indian weather, the mercury will go up and reach the expected temperature of over 40 degrees as April ends, thereby may slow down the effect of the COVID-19 disease.

While it is great news that the survival time of the deadly disease on any surface would be less when the temperature is high, it does not conclude that any individual carrying the virus in their body will become safe due to high temperature on the outside.

Since coronavirus has already made its entry in India a few months back, it would be incorrect to state that places with higher temperatures are completely safe. However, India, still with a lower number of COVID-19 cases in comparison to other countries can still prevent itself from becoming a massive graveyard like US, Spain, Italy, France, UK, and many others by taking massive precautions.

Again, the Indian summer may help in slowing down the coronavirus, but will not completely stop the virus from spreading.

To stop or at least slow down the spread of novel coronavirus in India, we need to understand the difference between mild, moderate, and severe coronavirus symptoms seriously and inform doctors we have any.

It may have become a necessity for everyone to know Simple Ways To Spend Free Time During Coronavirus Lockdown. Nonetheless, it is equally important for every individual to understand How Avoiding Touching Your Face Can Help Fight Coronavirus Infection

All in all, since the number of coronavirus cases in India is still increasing on a daily basis, we cannot depend alone on the rising temperatures to save us from the pandemic.

Being alert, practicing the safety measures made by self as well as the Indian Government, and staying & keeping everyone safe with the constant & correct use of mask and washing hands with running water & soap or using hand sanitizer will be of real help in keeping coronavirus infection at bay.

To conclude, we can hope and do our best to gain freedom against COVID-19 disease in the coming months.

However, this won’t be possible without adequate information on coronavirus and following safety measures.

So, if you are really looking forward to a coronavirus-free India in a month or so, go ahead and do everything it takes to keep yourself and your loved ones safe from the virus.
