Heart Disease Risk Factors for Women
Society has always thought heart attack being more prevalent among men. The higher living age of women also gives wind to such myths in society. A heart attack is one of the most prominent reasons for death among women and men in the United States. There are many diseases which plague women more than men In India, the government data shows that heart disorders are on the rise since the last decade, and the heart attack deaths will increase. The risk is thought to be more among women because they experience a few different heart attack symptoms as compared to men, and these are the symptoms that they don’t look out for.
Heart Diseases Risk Factors Among Women
The risk factors which lead to women being more vulnerable to heart diseases are as follows:
- Lack of Cardio: In comparison to men, women are less likely to go to gyms and join a fitness course. Despite being more actively involved in the household or their everyday work life, medical data suggests that women get a low amount of cardio exercise compared to an average male.
- Menopause: Estrogen is an essential hormone for the woman's body, and post-menopause, the estrogen levels decrease. The decreased amount of estrogen in the body makes the female body more vulnerable to small vessel disease.
- Complications During Pregnancy: If there had been any complications during the pregnancy regarding blood pressure or blood glucose, the mother is at an increased risk of developing these diseases in the long term. These very diseases increase the chance of heart diseases in women.
- Diabetes: The data given by NCBI shows that India has the highest number of diabetes patients. It is also seen in various government researches that diabetes is very much prevalent among women. Diabetes messes up with your pain reception, and this increases your chances of experiencing a silent attack.
- Mental Stress: Stress and hypertension have become quite prevalent among women since the last half-decade, and this leads to disruption in the hormonal cycle, which eventually results in lifestyle diseases, and that increases the heart attack chances among women.
- Depression: Depression is more prevalent among women, and it is the most unaddressed issue, which makes a healthy lifestyle a challenging task to maintain. This unhealthy lifestyle dramatically increases the chances of cardiac problems.
- Smoking: Smoking habits have been found to affect women more drastically, with cardio-respiratory issues in comparison to men. These cardio-respiratory issues or diseases mostly lead to a heart attack in later years.
- Family Medical History: This has been noticed (dedicated medical research still has to prove this) that women are prominently affected by the family history in cases of diseases. This stands to say that women are at increased risk compared to men if the family has a history of heart attacks.
- Inflammatory Diseases: These issues are equally responsible in the case of men and women.
Conclusion
Heart disease patients are increasing in India, and it is in our hands that we reduce the number of patients in the coming years or be overwhelmed by this lifestyle issue. The decision and the work towards it lie entirely with all of us. One more change needs to done which includes getting a health cover.
