  • Tracheal aspirate – In the tracheal aspirate test, a thin tube with a torch (bronchoscope) will be put into your mouth to reach your lungs to collect the sample. 

  • Sputum test – First of all, learn that sputum is thick mucus, which gets accumulated in the lungs and comes out with a cough. In the case of sputum test, you will be asked to cough up sputum in a special cup. It is also a possibility that a swab will be used to take a sample from your nose. 

  • Blood test – In case of a blood test, a blood sample will be taken from a vein in your arm.

Are there any risks associated while testing for coronavirus?

Coronavirus tests may leave you feeling uncomfortable. 

While you may feel a gagging sensation when the swab is inserted in your nose and throat, tracheal aspirate may leave you with bleeding or infection (in some cases). Note that blood tests do not come with any risk. However, it may swell or pain in the area of needle insertion.
