While online delivery of food requires the involvement of several strangers from preparation until it reaches your home, here we come with several precautions to ensure the utmost safety of our readers.
Here are 5 extra precautions you should take during coronavirus pandemic.
1. Order From Trusted Eateries
This is not the time to experiment with new food outlets. Order food only from the places you have been eating from keeping safety concerns in mind. Avoid ordering from a place that serves the low quality of food or that has made you sick before. You can check on the websites of eateries about how they are taking precautions while preparing food during the pandemic.
2. Go for No-Contact Delivery
Opt for no-contact delivery and avoid the delivery person if possible. Ask him/her to keep the order outside your house or at a safe place near the gate or simply hang a carry bag at the door. There are many restaurants who are going for contactless delivery so that the contact between delivery persons and customers is minimized.
Also, avoid paying in cash. Choose an online payment method to pay for your order and even tips.
3. Throw Away The Packaging
It is still not clear that coronavirus can be transmitted through food, but it is sure that it can stay on surfaces for up to nine days. It is therefore advised to immediately transfer the food content into another clean container at your home. After transferring, dispose of the restaurant bag in a way that the cleaner can collect it without touching it.
4. Wash Your Hands
The World Health Organisation recommends washing hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, you can go for a hand sanitizer (60% alcohol). Wash hands before and after eating. Also, avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth after receiving the restaurant packaging.
5. Heat The Food For Around 2 Minutes
The Centre for Food Safety at the University of Georgia has indicated that the virus is very sensitive to cooking as the heat can kill the virus. But as the food has been transported from outside, it is advised to play safe and heat it in a pan or microwave and then enjoy it.
