The two age groups that have the most vulnerability for this virus are the children and the elderly. The myth that children do not get affected by this disease should not be believed. Children, especially the new-borns, are at an increased risk because the new-borns do not have an immune system. Since the children are at an increased risk due to this disease, the first and foremost target should be to provide them with protection from this disease. Since a treatment or immunisation for Covid-19 is still not available, it is best to insure their health by inculcating the preventive practises in them. The prevention tricks for your children include:
- Inculcate the Habit of Washing Hands: Make sure to teach him/her to wash hands thoroughly. Make them do it for at least 20 minutes. Teach him how to use hand sanitiser and that sanitiser should contain 60% alcohol. Explain it to them why this is important as explaining an activity has been found to make them remember the activity and do it with interest.
- Limit the Outdoor Activities: Just for the period of the pandemic, it is advised that you limit the outdoor activities and connect with other people virtually. Introduce your child to the concept of indoor activities, including virtual games. Include games which involve interaction with friends because human interact of the same age is very healthy for the mental development of children.
- Clean and Sanitise: Clean the entire house and if possible, sanitise all the surfaces which frequently come in contact with hands. If total sanitisation is not possible, then it is preferred to sanitise all the surfaces in the reach of the children.
- No Travel Plans: As it is the travel plans have been scrapped, but if there are still any outstanding plans because you have the means to travel safely, it is best if you avoid that plan or postpone it if possible. Children may be secure in your mode of transport, but they may come in contact with other people during the travel or after reaching the destination where they may get infected.
- Make them Wear a Mask: Masks should always be worn and explain to them why it is vital to wear the mask. Any child above the age of 2 should wear a mask. Teach them about wearing it properly.
- Make them Constantly Change Clothes: Clothes are a prominent carrier medium and make sure that everyone in your family changes clothes when they come from outside, even if they followed the social distancing protocols. Keep them separate from the clothes worn in the house and try and wash the outside clothes pile as soon as possible.
