The top-up or super top-up health insurance plans play a pivotal role on the exhaustion of the sum insured of your basic policy. These plans act as an add-on cover over and above the basic policy. To cover additional expenses, one has a choice of buying another policy or going in for a top-up policy. In any case, a top-up policy is an inexpensive and prudent deal.

With the skyrocketing medical expenses and treatment costs, it sometimes becomes difficult to take care of the hospitalisation costs due to serious illness or accident. During such times, these plans offer both financial and mental support by taking care of additional expenses.

1. Bajaj Allianz Extra Care Top-Up

Extra Care policy by Bajaj Allianz is perfect health protection for you and your family. It can be taken as a basic cover or can also be taken as an add-on cover. It takes care of all the medical expenses incurred during hospitalisation due to serious ailment or accident. The policy comes with a various sum insured and deductible options to choose from.

Key Benefits of Extra Care Top Up

The policy offers cover for an individual or can be availed as a floater policy, where the whole of the family comprising of self, spouse and dependent children can be covered under a single premium. Dependent parents can also be covered under the policy, but a separate policy is issued to them. Other benefits of the policy include:

  • Pre and post hospitalisation expenses
  • Coverage for an emergency ambulance, maximum of Rs. 3000
  • Sum insured options of Rs. 10 Lakh, Rs. 12 Lakh and Rs. 15 Lakh
  • Deductible options are ranging from Rs. 3 Lakh, Rs. 4 Lakh and Rs. 5 Lakh
  • No pre-policy medical check-up required up to 55 years

Who Can Buy this Plan?

The entry age for proposer, spouse and parents is 18 years to 70 years. However, the dependent children aged 3 months to 25 years can also be covered.

Waiting Period Under the Plan

Under this policy, the waiting period for the pre-existing conditions or ailment is 48 months. However, for joint replacement surgery, there is 4-year waiting period unless required due to accidental injury. For all other illnesses and diseases, there is a waiting period of 30 days since the inception of the policy, except accidental injury.

Renewability of the Plan

Extra Care Policy comes with lifelong renewability.

Exclusions Under the Plan

Extra Care Policy does not cover the insured against the following expenses:

  • Sexually transmitted or venereal diseases
  • Dental treatment or surgery of any kind
  • Convalescence, general debility, congenital diseases or anomalies
  • Vaccination or inoculation unless required for treatment
  • Vitamins, tonics or nutritional supplements unless part of treatment

2. Bajaj Allianz Extra Care Plus

Extra Care Plus is a plan that acts as an additional cover to the policyholder’s existing health insurance policy. It takes care of the additional medical expenses over and above the basic sum insured. The floater policy offers cover for self, spouse, dependent parents and dependent children. It is a perfect fit to get more extensive insurance cover.

Key Benefits of Extra Care Plus Policy

Extra Care Plus policy offers wide options for sum insured and aggregate deductibles. The sum insured options available under the policy range from Rs. 3 Lakh to Rs. 50 Lakh and the aggregate deductibles offered under the plan are Rs. 2 Lakh, Rs. 3 Lakh, Rs. 5 Lakh and Rs. 10 Lakh. The other benefits available under the plan comprises of:

  • The policy can opt even if there is no existing health insurance cover
  • Up to 55 years of age no requirement for a pre-policy medical checkup
  • Air ambulance cover as an optional benefit
  • Cover for maternity expenses related to pregnancy, childbirth, and lawful termination of pregnancy
  • Costs for an organ donor for harvesting an organ is covered
  • Medical checkup benefit of up to Rs. 2000 at the end of every continuous period of three years

Who Can Buy this Plan?

Anyone between the age group of 91 days to 80 years is eligible to get an entry under this plan.

Waiting Period Under the Plan

Any disease/illness, except accidental injuries, contracted within the first 30 days of the inception of the policy is not covered. The waiting period for specific illnesses/procedures and pre-existing diseases is 12 months. There is also a waiting period of 12 months before the maternity-related expenses can be covered.

Renewability of the Plan

The policy offers lifelong renewability for proposer, spouse, and dependent parents. For dependent children, the policy is renewable up to 35 years of age.

Exclusions Under the Plan

The policy does not cover the insured against the following expenses:

  • Any form of plastic surgery unless required for burns, cancer or accidental injury
  • Circumcision unless needed for treatment of illness or accidental bodily injury
  • Intentional self-injury (including but not limited to misuse of drugs or alcohol)
  • Vaccination or inoculation unless as part of the treatment
  • Any condition directly or indirectly related to HIV/AIDS
